Paul’s “thorn in the flesh” is one of the most debated and mysterious passages in the New Testament. What exactly was it? A physical illness? Spiritual opposition? A person? Or something else entirely? Today, we have New Testament scholar Ken Berding to explore 2 Corinthians 12 and the historical interpretations of Paul’s thorn in the flesh.

Difficult Passages #14 – The Dangerous Habit Jesus Condemned (Matthew 5:33-37)
Should Christians swear oaths? Or did Jesus forbid them entirely? In Matthew 5:33-37, Jesus says, “Do not take an oath at all.” On the surface, that seems pretty clear-cut. But what about getting married? What about court? What about hand-on-the-Bible moments? Did Jesus actually mean Christians should never make any oath under any circumstance? In this conversation, Dr. Erik Thoennes digs into one of the more puzzling passages in the Sermon on the Mount and explore why thoughtful Christians have landed on different sides of this question for centuries.

How NOT to Read the Bible’s Hardest Passages | Series #1
This year, I will be tackling the most DIFFICULT passages of the Bible with Bible scholars from Talbot School of Theology. We will discuss passages, such as “What is Paul’s Thorn in the Flesh? (2 Cor. 12:7), “Who are the imprisoned spirits in 1 Peter 3?” and tough questions in Revelation. Today, I’m with Dr. Erik Thoennes to briefly introduce the series. No passages are off limits! Please, let us know what passages you want us to cover in future episodes.
